✅Steroid Acne and Whitening Creams
Today, I had the opportunity to encounter a patient who purchased a skin whitening cream online.
✅She presented with rapidly developing red bumps and pustules on her arms, back, and chest.
✅Importantly, this case was unusual in that the acne wasn’t limited to the face and the symptoms worsened rapidly.
✅The beginning of the problem began two weeks after a misunderstanding. The patient explained that she had previously tried an online cream advertised as promising a short-term whitening effect. However, after only two weeks of use, her buttocks became red and pustules began appearing all over her body.
✅After a thorough history and examination of the condition, the doctor suspected steroid acne, a condition caused by exposure to the powerful steroids in the product.
🧬Steroid acne is not as common as you might think. It differs in several ways from ordinary acne.
🧬The appearance of the bumps, their location, their rapid onset, and their apparent cause: monomorphous papulopustules.
💚For treatment and solutions for the patient, the first priority is to immediately stop using products containing steroids.
💚In this case, the doctor developed a treatment plan that included discontinuing medication. Immediately address the suspected product, apply steroid acne medications, including topical anti-inflammatory medications and short-term oral antibiotics to control severe inflammation.
