🦠 โรคติดเชื้อนิวโมคอคคัสเกิดจากอะไร?
เกิดจากเชื้อแบคทีเรีย Streptococcus pneumoniae (S. pneumoniae) สามารถทำให้เกิดโรคติดเชื้อในหลายบริเวณ เช่น
- หูชั้นกลางอักเสบ
- ไซนัสอักเสบ
- ปอดอักเสบ (ปอดบวม)
- การติดเชื้อในกระแสเลือด (มีไข้ ปวดเมื่อย เจ็บกล้ามเนื้อ ปวดศีรษะ)
- การติดเชื้อบริเวณสมองและไขสันหลัง (เยื่อหุ้มสมองอักเสบ, มีไข้สูง ปวดศีรษะ คลื่นไส้ อาเจียน คอแข็ง และอยู่ในภาวะวิกฤต)
🛡️ ใครคือกลุ่มเสี่ยงที่ควรฉีดวัคซีน?
- ผู้ใหญ่ที่มีอายุตั้งแต่ 65 ปีขึ้นไป
- ผู้ใหญ่ในทุกช่วงอายุที่มีปัจจัยเสี่ยงต่อการติดเชื้อนิวโมคอคคัส ซึ่งได้แก่:
- ผู้ป่วยโรคพิษสุราเรื้อรัง
- ผู้ป่วยโรคหัวใจเรื้อรัง, โรคปอดเรื้อรัง, โรคไตเรื้อรัง หรือโรคตับเรื้อรัง
- ผู้ป่วยเบาหวาน
- ผู้ที่สูบบุหรี่
- ผู้ที่ผ่านการผ่าตัดฝังประสาทหูเทียม
- ผู้ป่วยที่มีการรั่วซึมของน้ำไขสันหลัง
- ผู้ป่วยกลุ่มภูมิคุ้มกันบกพร่อง (เช่น ผู้ป่วย HIV, ผู้ป่วยมะเร็ง, ผู้ที่ปลูกถ่ายอวัยวะ, ผู้ที่ได้รับยาที่มีผลกดภูมิคุ้มกัน)
- ผู้ป่วยโรคเม็ดเลือดแดงรูปเคียว (Sickle cell disease)
- ผู้ป่วยที่ไม่มีม้าม หรือม้ามทำงานบกพร่อง

🦠 What causes pneumococcal infection?
It is caused by the bacteria Streptococcus pneumoniae (S. pneumoniae). It can cause infections in many areas, such as:
Otitis (middle ear infection),
sinusitis,
pneumonia (pneumonia),
bloodstream infections (fever, aches, muscle aches, headache),
brain and spinal cord infections (meningitis, high fever, headache, nausea, vomiting, stiff neck, and critical illness).
🛡️ Who is at risk for vaccination?
Adults 65 years and older
Adults of all ages with risk factors for pneumococcal infection, including:
People with chronic alcoholism
People with chronic heart disease, chronic lung disease, chronic kidney disease, or chronic liver disease
People with diabetes
People who smoke
People who have had cochlear implant surgery
People with cerebrospinal fluid leaks
Immunocompromised individuals (e.g., HIV patients, cancer patients, organ transplant recipients, those taking immunosuppressive medications)
Patients with sickle cell disease
Patients with a spleen or with impaired spleen function
💉 How can we prevent this?
Pneumococcal infection can be prevented by maintaining good health, avoiding close contact with sick people, and, most importantly, by getting vaccinated against pneumococcal infection.
💡 Vaccines available in Thailand
There are two main vaccines that cover different strains (PCV10, PCV13, PCV15, PCV20, and PPSV23).
Age: No underlying disease/risk factors. Risk factors/underlying disease. (Except for immunocompromised individuals) Immunocompromised individuals
19-49 years old – PCV13/15/20* followed by PPSV23 (at least 1 year) PCV13/15/20* followed by PPSV23 (at least 8 weeks)
50 years and older – PCV13/15/20* (if not previously vaccinated with PCV) followed by PPSV23 (at least 1 year and at least 5 years after the last PPSV23 vaccination) PCV13/15/20* (if not previously vaccinated with PCV) followed by PPSV23 (at least 8 weeks and at least 5 years after the last PPSV23 vaccination)
